PROJECT NAME

Cordova Multi-Well Shale Gas Pads

LOCATION

Development of the Cordova shale gas field located north of Fort Nelson, British Columbia, Canada.

DESCRIPTION

Detailed design Engineering, Procurement, Project Engineering, and Construction Management associated with the production of multi-well pads (9 wells/pads). The scope of the project consisted of executing multi-discipline engineering and managing the project from the conceptual stage through the commissioning and start-up phase of the facility.

TIMELINE

The project timeline was both challenging and critical as the pads can only be accessed during the winter season. Only a 90-day window is available to install and commission the facility.

THE PIONEER DIFFERENCE

Our mandate was to establish a design and operating philosophy to reduce the capital costs associated with producing the Cordova pads for the gas plant. Our design philosophy and effective utilization of the engineering man-hours resulted in reducing the EPCM costs by over 150% compared to the previous pads constructed by the client. Some of the significant contributing factors associated with the field fabrication of facilities in British Columbia are the camp costs, extreme weather conditions, travel time, and shorter working hours which impact the overall efficiency and cost of the facility. Our design approach and unique pre-fabrication protocol resulted in extensive savings on the field assembly of the pressure piping. The key performance indicator in the execution phase of these projects was the prefabrication methodology which ensured that every spool fit the equipment and field installation of the facility was completed in a record time of three weeks.
